SUMMARY:Little Elves
LOCATION:Pumphouse Theatre\, 2140 Pumphouse Ave SW\, Calgary
DESCRIPTION:Little Elves Book & Lyrics by Kodie RollanMusic & Lyrics by Ali
xandra Cowman A Chromatic Theatre & Handsome Alice Co-Production Inspired
by the chilling folktale of St. Nicholas and the Evil Butcher\, Little Elv
es is a bold new musical that reimagines a centuries-old legend through a
contemporary lens. After escaping the clutches ofa murderous butcher\, thr
ee young elves find themselves hunted in a town where prejudiceoutweighs j
ustice and survival demands impossible choices. Blending haunting folk-ins
 pired music\, striking puppetry\, dark humour\, and powerful storytelling\
,Little Elves transforms a familiar legend into an unforgettable tale of r
esilience\, identity\, and thestories history chooses to tell. As truth be
comes increasingly blurred\, the musical asks a hauntingquestion: when the
world is determined to see you as the villain\, how far will you go to su
rvive? Set around the warmth of a campfire yet steeped in gothic folklore\
, Little Elves reinterprets theoriginal miracle of St. Nicholas by centeri
ng three young Asian women whose act of self-defence isrewritten as legend
. Rather than a simple tale of good and evil\, the musical examines who ge
ts totell history\, whose lives are deemed worthy of saving\, and how myth
can be used to justify injustice. Through its richly textured score—dra
wing from folk\, country\, and contemporary pop influences—and its evoca
tive visual world of eerie puppets and folklore-inspired design\, Little E
 lves exploresthemes of justice\, vengeance\, systemic racism\, abolition\,
faith\, and the enduring legacy of anti-Asiandiscrimination in Turtle Isl
and (North America). Both thrilling and deeply moving\, it invitesaudience
s to question the myths we inherit and the truths we choose to believe. Wa
