SUMMARY:Gord High: Home Rock
LOCATION:Silence Sounds\, Guelph
DESCRIPTION:The Unpopular Archive is proud to present a vinyl release celeb
rating St. Catharines ON native Gord High (1970-2012) — an unheralded ma
ster of Canadian electronic music. This limited edition set presents a foc
used selection of Gord’s 20 years in Canada’s underground music scene.
An 80s kid raised on Bo Diddley\, teen Gord moved quickly and fluidly fro
m SST punk rock into the far corners of dub reggae - then took it all to a
rt school. He was a prolific and gifted beatmaster\, producer\, DJ\, radio
transmitter tech\, musical Flash game webmaster\, visual artist\, electri
c guitarist and raconteur. Throughout the 90s and 00s\, he developed his v
isionary\, polyglot sound in a series of modest home studios\, from casset
te 4-track to Commodore Amiga to Audacity - and just once\, unleashed in a
pro studio (See disc two). For all Gord’s voracious stylistic borrowing
\, no one has sounded like this before or since. Recorded in Toronto\, Tok
yo\, Guelph and St. Catharines\, with an array of collaborators\, this is
Gord High’s first vinyl release ever - straight from his rockin’ home
to yours - just a couple decades late.
