By day, Vincent Cruège is the winemaker behind the internationally acclaimed Bordeaux wines of Vignobles Silvio Denz. By night, he paints. On November 27, Calgary gets to experience both in a single evening. Each bottle and each painting shaped by the same hands. From Bordeaux to Los Angeles, and now to Calgary, Electric Moons follows the glow of the city’s streetlamps across the northern hemisphere. After celebrated debuts in Los Angeles and Bordeaux, Cruège unveils the third chapter of the series at Gibson Fine Art, with three new paintings. Each canvas is built entirely from layers of tiny points of colour. From across the room, a quiet Calgary winter night comes into focus. Step closer, and it dissolves into rhythm and the vibration of the paint. A crescent moon and a single streetlamp rise among the silhouettes of trees. Snow carries the cool light of two streetlamps toward a house hidden in the night, announced only by two warm orange windows. A road of lamps tightens into the distance, leading to a city you never see, only feel in the glow on the horizon. It’s no accident that the paintings feel like wine. Cruège brings the same instincts to the canvas that he brings to the cellar: layering, balance and light. The wines speak the terroir of Bordeaux, the paintings speak the terroir of the city, and the two are expressions of a single artistic eye. That conversation fills the room all evening. You’ll sip a curated selection of Vignobles Silvio Denz wines, including Cruège’s own expressions of Bordeaux, the liquid counterpart to the works on the walls. Singers and instrumentalists from Ammolite Opera will perform throughout the night, drawing on French composers such as Debussy and Fauré, their voices rising through Gibson’s high ceilings. Isaac Bignell of Say Cheese Fromagerie, a noted partner of Bordeaux wine culture in Calgary, will pair each glass with artisan cheeses. The paintings and wines will be available for purchase at the event. Two mediums, one vision, and an ordinary Friday evening turned into something unforgettable. Only 100 tickets are available. Presented by DRC Live and DRC Imports.
